Program Description:

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest, Hungary: The Republic of Hungary is situated along the Danube and Tisza Rivers. The Danube divides this historic, yet cosmopolitan, city of Budapest into two parts: Buda and Pest.  Hungary is a member of NATO and joined the European Union in May 2004. Two thousand years of history can be seen in the well-preserved ruins of both the Roman and Turkish empires and the Hapsburg Dynasty.

Corvinus University of Budapest: Corvinus University of Budapest is one of the leading universities of economics in Hungary but also in the East Central European region. The university is an institution of seven faculties offering a variety of specializations to its 17,000 students. Corvinus is located in the center of Pest on the Danube River in the old customs building. Corvinus' International Studies Center (ISC) provides students from other countries the opportunity to take degree courses in English while witnessing directly the Hungarian economic, political and social systems that are developing daily. Each year, ISC hosts thousands of students from more than 80 different countries pursuing degrees in business administration or international economics.

Academics and Courses: Students enroll in a total of five courses at Corvinus University, one of which is a required introductory course in the Hungarian language. The language course is a great opportunity for students to get background in the basics of the language to assist in their day-to-day experience beyond the university. As Corvinus is primarily a business and economics university, students typically focus their remaining four courses on either their major or business electives. Some arts and sciences courses are offered as well. Courses are taught in English with the exception of the Hungarian language course.

Accommodations and Meals: Students are required to live in Corvinus's residence hall, a short distance from the university's main buildings and surrounded by restaurants and cafes. Students live in triple rooms with other international or Hungarian students. Living in the residence hall offers a lively atmosphere and is a fantastic way to meet and integrate with local students. Each room includes a private sink, shower, and toilet, as well as a mini-refrigerator. Every floor shares a common kitchen.

Transportation: Corvinus is centrally located in the heart of Budapest with easy access to public transportation. The residence hall is a short walk from the university buildings, open air markets and restaurants. To explore the rest of the city, Budapest has an extensive tram and subway system, offering student passes for purchase at discounted rates. Budapest is a transportation hub of central Europe, with both long-distance trains and planes connecting the city to eastern and western Europe.

Special Program Features:
Tandem Partners: All students will be assigned a Hungarian "tandem partner", who will act as their local expert as they start the semester. Tandem partners are typically local students who have returned from being exchange students abroad themselves, or have an interest in meeting visiting students. They will arrange airport pickup and transport students back to their accommodation as well accompany them to the university itself.
