Program Description:

Univ. of Mannheim campus

Mannheim, Germany

Germany boasts exciting cultural and historical landmarks, great regional diversity, and an advanced economy, which includes some of the world’s largest corporations, such as Volkswagen and Siemans.  With charming seaports in the north, cultural centers in the east, and the Black Forest in the south, Germany offers incredible opportunities for exploring regional and cultural differences.

University of Mannheim

University of Mannheim has an excellent reputation as a learning center for economics and business. The Business School of the University of Mannheim is one of the largest and most renowned business faculties in Europe. Research and teaching at the highest international level, consistent quality management, international focus and distinctive practical orientation constitute the central points of the “Mannheim Philosophy.”

The University of Mannheim is considered one of the most beautiful universities in Germany. The university is mainly located in Mannheim's palace - the largest baroque palace in Germany and the second-largest in the world. The University of Mannheim's campus is very centrally located and the city centre is within walking distance.

Academics

Students at University of Mannheim will have the opportunity to take classes alongside local German students and other international students.  Students can select business courses in English from the business school, as well as German language courses and arts and sciences courses from other parts of the university.

Courses are taught by a series of formal lectures/classes together with a strong emphasis on coursework outside class, including individual project work, group project work, computer work, library work, and class presentations. Students may find they have more free time during the week with less day-to-day homework than they are used to, but professors may expect a great deal more from them on exams.

Accommodations and Meals

University of Mannheim offers a limited number of single bedrooms in shared apartments in their residence halls, but they cannot guarantee housing for all exchange students, especially in the fall semester. Students can apply to live in residence halls, which are all a short commute by bus or tram to the university.  Each apartment can house up to fifteen students, has a kitchen and typically comes with basic kitchen items. Students are responsible for purchasing and preparing their meals. Students may also arrange their own apartment rental.

Transportation & Travel

Thanks to its central location and extensive transportation system, the city of Mannheim is a perfect starting point to explore Germany and the rest of Europe. Heidelberg castle is just a 15-minute train ride away and the Black Forest can be reached within 90 minutes by train. Other popular destinations for weekend trips are the Swiss Alps, Austria, and the Alsace wine region in France. Frankfurt International Airport is just a 30-minute train ride away.
