Non-Bentley Programs are run by institutions or organizations with which Bentley University has no formalized agreement. The purpose of a Non-Bentley Program is to allow students the opportunity to pursue a worthy academic offering outside the scope of Bentley's current programs and in a location where Bentley does not offer a program. Non-Bentley Programs are not intended to allow a student to circumvent Bentley's travel abroad procedures or grading policies.
Students who want to participate in a Non-Bentley Program must submit a petition for program approval via the online application that can be accessed at this site. The
Non-Bentley Program Essay serves as the petition. Petitions are only approved for programs that differ significantly (in location, content, and experience) from those on Bentley's approved list. The petition must explain why the existing approved programs do not fulfill the student's academic needs and how the proposed program would fulfill them. Students who do not petition for pre-approval of their Non-Bentley program and seek approval after their program is complete may not receive academic credit.
Participants in Non-Bentley Programs are subject to the same
application and eligibility requirements as students studying abroad on Bentley programs, and are expected to pay a non-refundable deposit of $125.
A Non-Bentley Program participant must take a
Leave of Absence from Bentley. Applicants should research the academic consequences of
course away and transfer credits. Students planning to take a Leave of Absence for a Non-Bentley Program should be aware that they will not retain
institutional Bentley financial aid or grants (federal or state financial aid will still apply) while away and should consult with
Student Financial Services for additional information. International students interested in a non-Bentley program should consult with the
Center for International Students & Scholars.
If you are interested in applying to a Non-Bentley Program, please carefully read and follow the advice and action steps in the
