CULTURAL INVESTIGATION PROJECTStudents must design and carry out a cultural investigation project throughout the term abroad and present their work at a special public event upon return to campus. The format is open. Students may create written work, blogs, videos, multimedia, or any other final product provided that the project (or at least meaningful excerpts) will be suitable for presentation to a wide campus audience of students, faculty, and staff.
- Incorporate field-based research (for example, interviewing locals, following and analyzing local current events, investigating an aspect of the local culture that interests you).
- Demonstrate achievable goals, creativity, and feasibility.
- Involve significant reflection and analysis throughout the course of the term abroad (In other words, your project should not merely report and summarize, but also incorporate your experiences and opinions over time. You’ll need to demonstrate new understanding, learning, growth, or change that you have experienced as a result of your cultural investigation project). LSM or Honors students are encouraged to apply. Your cultural investigation project may provide you with potential topics for your culminating project or senior honors capstone. Please discuss this possibility with relevant advisors.
