CULTURAL INVESTIGATION PROJECTStudents must design and carry out a cultural investigation project throughout the term abroad and present their work at a special public event upon return to campus. The format is open. Students may create written work, blogs, videos, multimedia, or any other final product provided that the project (or at least meaningful excerpts) will be suitable for presentation to a wide campus audience of students, faculty, and staff.
- Incorporate field-based research (for example, interviewing locals, following and analyzing local current events, investigating an aspect of the local culture).
- Demonstrate achievable goals, creativity, and feasibility.
- Involve significant reflection and analysis throughout the course of the term abroad. Students should not merely report and summarize, but also incorporate experiences and changes in opinions over time. Students will need to demonstrate new understanding, learning, growth, or change that they experienced as a result of the cultural investigation project. LSM or Honors students are encouraged to apply. The cultural investigation project may provide students with potential topics for their culminating project or senior honors capstone. Please discuss this possibility with relevant advisors.
